Medical Credentials

With the growing demand for plastic surgery these days, it is now more important than ever to make sure your plastic surgeon has the training, credentials, and experience necessary to proceed with your chosen plastic procedures. The American Board of Medical Specialties and The American Board of Plastic Surgery are two of the most important credentials to look for.

Providing a trusted credential important to patients and relevant to a physician’s practice is the goal of the American Board of Medical Specialties as well as the ABMS Program for Maintenance of Certification. Physicians who have achieved their medical license have only met the minimum requirements to diagnose and treat patients; this is not specialty specific. Very different from medical licensure, Board Certification is a voluntary process and involves a rigorous process. Designed and administered by specialists in the specific area of medicine, the process involves testing and peer evaluations. Being Board Certified shows the ability of a physician to hold an exceptional expertise in a specific specialty and/or subspecialty of medical practice. Board Certification also serves as an important credential demonstrating how the specialist provides a higher degree of standard in patient care. To ensure the best care possible, patients should look for these important credentials as they are the best measure of the physician’s knowledge, skills, and experience in providing high-quality health care within a given specialty.

As one of the 24 medical specialty boards that make up the American Board of Medical Specialties, The American Board of Plastic Surgery works with the other 23 specialties to establish common standards for physicians to maintain board certification. The goal of the American Board of Medical Specialties is to protect the public through assessment and certification that doctors meet special education, training, and professional requirements.

Dr. Mandraccia, a Diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, has met these requirements and is a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon.

As the largest plastic surgery specialty organization in the world, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons was founded in 1931 and represents 94% of all board-certified plastic surgeons in the United States today, as well as over a thousand world-wide. With the involvement from plastic surgeons around the world, the ASPS not only a global institution, is also a leading authority on plastic and reconstructive plastic surgery.
