Breast Lift Surgery ( Mastoplexy )

Bonita Springs, Naples, Estero and Ft. Myers, Florida

Pregnancy, nursing, and gravity are often important factors that affect the appearance of your breasts. The skin of your breasts loses elasticity over the years, and that causes the breasts to lose their shape and firmness. Breast lift surgery, also known as mastoplexy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure Dr. Mandraccia performs that can reshape your breasts and return them to a younger, firmer appearance. This cosmetic surgery procedure can also decrease the size of areola. If you have small breasts that have lost volume due to age, pregnancy or nursing, silicone or saline breast implants can be used in conjunction by Dr. Mandraccia with the breast lift surgery to improve appearance and firmness or your breasts.

The Breast Lift Procedure

Breast lift surgery is usually done following a similar technique to breast reduction surgery. Dr. Mandraccia uses an anchor-shaped incision that circles the areola and extends from the nipple to the crease at the bottom of your breast. Once the excess skin is removed, the nipple is moved higher up on the breast and the incision is closed.

Recovery from Breast Lift Surgery

Following the breast lift procedure, you breasts will be swollen and bruised for a few days, but the pain can be controlled with medication prescribed by Dr. Mandraccia. You’ll need to wear a surgical bra or an elastic bandage to control swelling and aid in the recovery process for about three or four weeks. Dr. Mandraccia will remove the stitches and in a week or two, you will be able to resume most non-strenuous activities.

Risks & Complications of a Mastoplexy

Breast lift surgery is a fairly complicated procedure, and it does carry some risks – like all surgery does. The most common risks are:

  • An adverse reaction to anesthesia
  • Unevenly positioned nipples
  • Permanent loss of feeling in nipples or breasts
  • Bleeding and infection

Dr. Mandraccia offers a certified, on-site surgery center for maximum comfort and privacy during you breast lift procedure. This facility has recently been certified by the Florida Board of Health at top grade. Patients often opt for general anesthesia in the surgery center, which is jointly owned by Lee Memorial and Naples Community Hospitals.
